Teaching children about art allows them to make visual connections with everything that they learn, know, and experience. What students learn in the art room almost always can translate into any other subject matter or real world experience. There is so much that art does for the learning mind at any age. I as an art educator want to strive to make art exciting and relevant, yet challenging. Art allows students to creatively solve problems, as there is no one solution. It challenges students to think without any fear of failure.
I feel that one of the most important outcomes in studying art is growth. Not only does student work improve over time, but the students themselves grow in significant ways. Appreciating art means appreciating and accepting other cultures around the world and the societies we live in. Creating art means understanding how to make mistakes, how to improve ourselves, how to be flexible, and how to be imaginative. These are all essential things I want my students to learn and experience in my classroom. Having these important qualities helps anyone to succeed in life.
